The mid-2000’s was such a fun time in hip-hop. We’ve always had mixtapes with DJ’s talking their shit over them but that’s when, in my opinion, it really took off and became a staple in hip-hop. You’re mixtape wasn’t good if you didn’t have DJ Drama screaming all over it. While we don’t get Drama on this one, this has those type of roots. 704 built a nice buzz over the summer and has now hit us with his Heart Of The City mixtape this week.

What 704, DJ ESudd, and DJ ChuckT do on this project is take it back to when actual mixtapes were poppin’. We get some mixing and a real street feel to this one, something that has become a fossil in this day and age. What is labeled as a “mixtape” now days is really a street album; this project is full of gritty street records, country records, and more with features coming from Big K.R.I.T., Nipsey Hussle, Young Scooter, Cap-1, Verse Simmonds, 8Ball & MJG, Lil’ Keke, and more. Reminisce about actual mixtapes while checking this one out.
