He is one of the most popular and respected French artists abroad. However, Christine and the Queens were not invited to the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, unlike Lady Gaga, Celine Dion
Aya Nakamura, Gojira, Juliette Armanet or Rim’K. A situation which saddens the singer as he explains in a tweet: ” They don’t want to give you the edge because it elevates their soul, and their plan is to strengthen their system of winners and losers, centered on the ghost of money. They are afraid because they have given their soul to money. “But Christine and the Queens seem to have found the solution. After several singles and a rant about a new name change, the singer has just carried out an unprecedented operation this weekend: on social networks, he himself leaked his new album entitled “Hopecore”. The public can therefore download and listen to this new musical project for free, via a sharing link that he published on Instagram and X.
“Audacity must be rewarded”
Featuring a visual of the character from “V for Vendetta,” Christine and the Queens are sharing seven new songs, although the tracklist indicates eight tracks and the fifth track is missing. Track 5 is God ” he replied on this subject. A record that begins with electro and house sounds with the first tracks “Forgive 8888888”, “Elevate”, “Inside of M8” or “Deep Holes”. If “Red Birdman Emergency” and “Manuel danse. Redcar” are the only tracks mainly in French of the set, the singer shares above all an imposing “Opera (I understand)” of 20 minutes. On listening, we discover a musically coherent record, even if a track is missing.
In a message shared on Instagram, the singer of “Saint-Claude” explains his choice: ” This is real music, from me to you. My survival technique. Since 2010, music has been a [moyen de liberté]. It’s time for me to have a vendetta, on the way they look at me and tell me to do something different, like a little girl on the pier waiting for her red balloon ” Before continuing: ” I am free because music frees me with each new song, which makes me go further in my quest, which brings me closer to you my dear ones. (…) We know that [ce monde] is a great theater, let’s have fun on the other side. Audacity must be rewarded by the lord. (…) Take my music, it’s my soul and my body, take it and share it ” On X, he describes “Hopecore” as a ” vision in [son esprit] » : « We are here for music and great art and we will no longer tolerate being reduced “.

Christine and the Queens is not the first to share its album for free without going through traditional distribution channels. Rihanna had used a similar method: a million copies of his album “Anti” were available for free download in early 2016, to counter the first leak of the record. Childish Gambino had created a site to share “3.15.20”, released in March 2020 at the start of the lockdown. For her part, Kim Petras had encouraged fans in 2022 to go and listen to the leaked versions (i.e. the leaks) of her album “Problématique” that her label did not want to release. Finally, the record was officially released in September 2023. Will it be the same for Christine and the Queens? To be continued…
